Little Switchblade = Big Bass
By: Mike Delisser
During a recent Basstasstic Series tournament at Somerset Dam, Aimee Thompson landed a spectacular 55cm, 3.31kg Australian Bass on her favourite lure, a 1/4oz TT Switchblade in the popular "Sunset Gold" colour.
Not content with just one big bass swimming around the livewell, Aimee used her little Switchblade to land several more good fish during the tournament. The young angler went on to win the junior category and she placed a remarkable 3rd overall in the event. Her kicker fish also won Aimee the competition's biggest bass prize. That's quite an impressive achievement for a twelve year old.
Aimee's winning technique was to cast her lure wide of the boat then slowly retrieve it along the bottom with a constant series of short hops, the Switchblade's tight vibrating action proved too much for the Somerset bass to resist. When asked the secret to her stunning success in the tournament a modest Aimee replied,"Dad uses the sounder to find the bass then I just catch them on my Switchblade". Simple!
